2-Methylene-pentanoic acid butyl ester, also known as 2-methylidene-5-oxopentanoic acid butyl ester, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H18O2. It is a colorless liquid with a fruity odor and is derived from the esterification of 2-methylene-pentanoic acid and butanol. This ester is commonly used as a flavoring agent in the food and beverage industry, particularly in the production of artificial fruit flavors, due to its ability to mimic the aroma of certain fruits. It is also used in the fragrance industry to create natural and synthetic scents. The compound is characterized by its molecular structure, which includes a five-carbon chain with a double bond between the second and third carbon atoms, a carbonyl group at the fifth position, and a butyl group attached to the oxygen atom of the carbonyl group.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3550-08-1 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,5,5 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3550-08:
(6*3)+(5*5)+(4*5)+(3*0)+(2*0)+(1*8)=71
71 % 10 = 1
So 3550-08-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Pd(II) - dppb and syngas catalyze regioselective hydroesterification of terminal alkynes under neutral conditions

El Ali, Bassam,Tijani, Jimoh,El-Ghanam, Abdel Moneim

, p. 2385 - 2387 (2001)

Palladium(II) regioselectively catalyzes the hydroesterification of terminal alkynes under syngas forming α,β-unsaturated esters 3 and 4 in excellent chemical yields under neutral conditions. The high selectivity for the linear ester 4 was obtained with a catalytic system that includes Pd(II), 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane (dppb) and CO/H2 in CH2Cl2 as solvent. The control of the regioselectivity depends strongly upon the type of ligand, the solvent and the use of the syngas mixture.
