The invention discloses a method for preparation of an azo metal complex by hydrothermal method, and the 1: 2 type azo metal complex with the structure shown as a general formula II in the specification is prepared from a compound with the general formula I and a metal giving agent by hydrothermal reaction, a reaction medium for the azo metal complex prepared from the metal giving agent and an azo ligand by hydrothermal reaction is distilled water or deionized water, no organic solvent is used, the preparation process has the advantages of being scientific, simple and safe. The invention also relates to application of the azo metal complex as a charge control agent obtained by the preparation method in powdered ink.

The azo metal complex is prepared by a complex reaction of a metal imparting agent and an azo ligand. The divalent azo metal complex substitutes azo chromium to be applied to preparation of toner.
