Organotin nitramines, R3SnN(NO2)R, where R is either a phenyl or an alkyl group, were prepared by metathesis, neutralization, and cleavage reactions. These tin derivatives are colorless to light brown low-melting solids which are stable in air. The infrared and M?ssbauer spectra and physical properties suggest that the tin atom exists in a pentacovalent state surrounded by three alkyl groups and a chelated organo nitramine. Chelation of the nitramine probably involves the amino nitrogen and an oxygen.
