Propanedinitrile, 2-(hydroxyimino)-, also known as malononitrile oxime, is a chemical compound with the molecular formula C3H2N2O. It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in water and has a pungent odor. Propanedinitrile,2-(hydroxyimino)- is commonly used as a reagent in organic synthesis and is particularly useful in the formation of heterocyclic compounds. Malononitrile oxime has also been studied for its potential as an anti-cancer agent and for its ability to inhibit enzymes involved in the synthesis of DNA and RNA. Additionally, it has shown promise as a reagent for the determination of various metal ions in solution.
