Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3681-74-1 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,6,8 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3681-74:
(6*3)+(5*6)+(4*8)+(3*1)+(2*7)+(1*4)=101
101 % 10 = 1
So 3681-74-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Oxone/sodium chloride: A simple and efficient catalytic system for the oxidation of alcohols to symmetric esters and ketones

Schulze, Agnes,Pagona, Georgia,Giannis, Athanassios

, p. 1147 - 1156 (2006)

An efficient method for the oxidation of alcohols is presented. The use of catalytic amounts of sodium chloride in combination with oxone allows the conversion primary aliphatic alcohols to symmetric esters. Secondary alcohols can be easily oxidized to ketones, and benzylic alcohols are converted to the corresponding aldehydes. The method is cost effective and enviromentally benign.
