It is a colorless, odorless, and non-toxic gas with a boiling point of -26.1°C. This chemical is primarily used as a refrigerant, blowing agent, and fire suppressant due to its low toxicity, non-flammability, and high chemical stability. However, it is also an ozone-depleting substance, contributing to the depletion of the ozone layer when released into the atmosphere. As a result, its production and use have been phased out under the Montreal Protocol to protect the environment and reduce the impact on global warming.
