Syntheses and spectroscopic study of β-ketoaldehyde nitroxides and corresponding metal chelates (Copper II, Palladium II, and vanadyl) are described.The diamagnetic or paramagnetic nature of the complexed metal explains the various ESR spectra observed.A new route to 2,2,5,5-tetramethylpyrrolidin-3-one-1-yloxy, a nitroxide scarcely used so far in spite of its potentialities, is also described.
