Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 38049-29-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 3,8,0,4 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 2 and 9 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 38049-29:
(7*3)+(6*8)+(5*0)+(4*4)+(3*9)+(2*2)+(1*9)=125
125 % 10 = 5
So 38049-29-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

A Mechanistic Test for Reactions Catalyzed by Lewis Acids

Laszlo, Pierre,Teston-Henry, Michelle

, p. 3837 - 3838 (1991)

A novel scale of Lewis acidities earlier proposed (Laszlo, P.; Teston, M.; J.Am.Chem.Soc. 1990, 112 8750-8754) is based on the calculated (MNDO) energy of the ?* level in the 1:1 complex formed between the Lewis acid and crotonaldehyde. We show here that this measure of Lewis acidity has also predictive value. It accounts very nicely for the rates of the ene reaction between β-pinene and methyl acrylate. The attendant free energy relationship between the Gibbs free energy change ΔG* for this reaction and the calculated ?* MO energy change is linear with a correlation coefficient of 0.99 for six points. This observation provides a new mechanistic test for the influence of a Lewis acidic catalyst on a chemical reaction.
