Formerly-proposed structures, cyclopent-isoquinolin-3(4H)-ones, for ring contracted by-products obtained from 1-substituted cycloheptapyrrol-2(1H)-ones and acetylenes, were revised to benzindol-2(1H)-ones on the basis of spectroscopic analysis.
