, p. 46494 - 46497 (2014/12/10)
An efficient method for synthesizing diaryl ketones via merging of oxidative cleavage of C-C double bonds and recombination of aromatic groups is developed with Et4NI (2.5 mol%) as the catalyst and NaIO4 as the oxidant. The control experiments provide valuable mechanistic insights into the formation of diaryl ketones, and suggest that NaIO4 serves as an epoxidation and nucleophilic deformylation reagent.
Infrared and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Properties of Benzoyl Derivatives of Five-membered Monoheterocycles and Determination of Aromaticity Indices
Jeon, Kyu Ok,Jun, Jung Ho,Yu, Ji Sook,Lee, Chang Kiu
, p. 763 - 771 (2007/10/03)
Benzophenones, 2-benzoylthiophenes, 2-benzoylpyrroles, and 2-benzoylfurans, which have substituents at m- and p-positions of the benzoyl ring were prepared and their ir and nmr spectra were obtained in 0.1 M chloroform-d solution. The chemical shift values of each series were plotted against the Hammett substituent parameters to give good correlation, with the exception of the ortho-Hs and -Cs. The slopes as well as the differences in chemical shift gave sets of meaningful values for the indices of aromaticy.

, p. 455 - 460 (2007/10/02)
A new reagent 2-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy)pyridine (TFOP) was prepared by the reaction of sodium salt of 2-pyridinol with trifluoromethylsulfonyl chloride in dioxane. The conpound TFOP in trifluoroacetic acid has been found to intermolecularly dehydrate from benzoic acid and aromatic hydrocarbons to give the corresponding benzophenones in high yield. It was further elucidated, in the reaction of fluorene, that a variety of carboxylic acids can be used as the acyl precursor for the aromatic ketone synthesis in conjunction with the TFOP/TFA system. This acylation procedure has been applied to the synthesis of 2-acylthiophenes, which are hard to prepare in a satisfactory yield by the classical Friedel-Crafts reaction using aluminum chloride as the catalyst.
