Contrary to previous reports, Zeise's dimer, 2-C2H4)2(μ-Cl)2Cl2>, reacts with tertiary phosphines in refluxing toluene or tetrachloroethane to give high yields of the phosphine-substituted analogues .A wide range of examples has been synthesised and fully characterised by 31P- and 195Pt- spectroscopy.
