A rapid exchange of the ring hydrazino with the ring disulfide group was observed in the reactions of the triazadiborolidine 1 or the thiadiazadiborolidine 3a with either the dimethyl- or the dibromotrithiadiborolanes 2a and d.This bridge exchange is accompanied by a much slower boryl group exchange leading to the statistical isotope distribution amongst all rings involved in the reaction as shown by 10B labelling of one of the starting ring compounds. In addition, it was found that the boryl group exchange occurs more rapidly between the thiadiazadiborolidine 3a and the dithiadiazadiborolidine 4a than with 1. - A mechanism is proposed for these processes. However, an alternative mechanism cannot be excluded considering specifically the bridge exchange.
