The invention relates to a preparing method of 2-methyl benzo-[c,d]benzpyrole; the method takes 1-nitro-8-acetonaphthone as a raw material, and comprises: (1) reacting the 1-nitro-8-acetonaphthone with hydrogen in a solvent in the presence of a catalyst to generate 1-amidogen-8-acetonaphthone; (2) enabling the 1-amidogen-8-acetonaphthone to be subjected to dehydration condensation reaction to generate the 2-methyl benzo-[c,d]benzpyrole. The invention provides a new process to synthesize the 2-methyl benzo-[c,d]benzpyrole. The process is simple, product posttreatment is simple and convenient, environment pollution is small, the prepared 2-methyl benzo-[c,d]benzpyrole product is high in quality and good in stability, basically no three wastes are generated in the preparing process, and the preparing method is suitable for industrial production.
