INELASTIC NEUTRON SCATTERING STUDIES OF ETHYLENE-CONTAINING SQUARE PLANAR PLATINUM COMPLEXES

The low frequency (0-850 cm-1) modes of vibration of the complexes trans-PtCl2(C2H4)*L (where L=ND3, CD3CN, DCON(CD3)2 and C6D5ND2) and cis-PtCl2(C2H4)*(CD3)2SO have been studied by inelastic neutron scattering, i.r. and Raman spectroscopy.In all complexes, motions of the C2H4 moiety relative to the platinum atom (including torsional modes) have been assigned and the barrier to rotation of the C2H4 ligand about an axis projected from the platinum atom through the centre of the C=C bond determined.The barriers thus calculated have been compared with energies of activation obtained from nuclear magnetic resonance studies of similar complexes.

Isotope labelling, particularly deuteration, is an important tool for the development of new drugs, specifically for identification and quantification of metabolites. For this purpose, many efficient methodologies have been developed that allow for the small-scale synthesis of selectively deuterated compounds. Due to the development of deuterated compounds as active drug ingredients, there is a growing interest in scalable methods for deuteration. The development of methodologies for large-scale deuterium labelling in industrial settings requires technologies that are reliable, robust and scalable. Here we show that a nanostructured iron catalyst, prepared by combining cellulose with abundant iron salts, permits the selective deuteration of (hetero)arenes including anilines, phenols, indoles and other heterocycles, using inexpensive D2O under hydrogen pressure. This methodology represents an easily scalable deuteration (demonstrated by the synthesis of deuterium-containing products on the kilogram scale) and the air- and water-stable catalyst enables efficient labelling in a straightforward manner with high quality control. Benzocarbazole Synthesis via Visible-Light-Accelerated Rh(III)-Catalyzed C-H Annulation of Aromatic Amines with Bicyclic Alkenes

A visible-light-accelerated Rh(III)-catalyzed C-H annulation of aromatic amines with bicyclic alkenes for the synthesis of benzocarbazole derivatives was developed. In this approach, with the cooperation of rhodium catalysis and visible-light irradiation, various aromatic amines reacted with oxabicyclic alkenes and azabicyclic alkenes smoothly at room temperature, delivering the corresponding bridged oxa or aza tetrahydro benzocarbazoles in good to excellent yields. Moreover, a series of benzo[b]carbazoles were synthesized conveniently through further aromatization in one pot. The potential of this method was demonstrated via directing-group removal, derivatization, a scale-up reaction, and fluorescence investigations.
