42296-74-2 Usage
Uses
Used in Chemical Industry:
1,5-Hexadiene is used as a chemical intermediate for the synthesis of various compounds, such as polymers and pharmaceuticals, due to its reactive diene functional group.
Used in Polymer Industry:
1,5-Hexadiene is used as a monomer in the production of specialty polymers, such as polybutadiene and other copolymers, because of its ability to undergo copolymerization with other monomers.
Used in Fuel Industry:
1,5-Hexadiene can be used as an additive in the fuel industry to improve the octane rating and performance of gasoline, thanks to its high reactivity and potential to increase the fuel's energy content.
Used in Research and Development:
1,5-Hexadiene serves as a valuable compound in research and development for studying the properties and reactions of dienes, as well as their potential applications in various fields, including materials science and pharmaceuticals.
Air & Water Reactions
Highly flammable. Insoluble in water.
Reactivity Profile
1,5-HEXADIENE may react vigorously with strong oxidizing agents. May react exothermically with reducing agents to release hydrogen gas. In the presence of various catalysts (such as acids) or initiators, may undergo exothermic addition polymerization reactions. May undergo autoxidation upon exposure to the air to form explosive peroxides. Violent explosions at low temperatures in ammonia synthesis units have been traced to the addition products of dienes and nitrogen dioxide [Bretherick, 5th Ed., 1995].
Health Hazard
May cause toxic effects if inhaled or absorbed through skin. Inhalation or contact with material may irritate or burn skin and eyes. Fire will produce irritating, corrosive and/or toxic gases. Vapors may cause dizziness or suffocation. Runoff from fire control or dilution water may cause pollution.
Fire Hazard
HIGHLY FLAMMABLE: Will be easily ignited by heat, sparks or flames. Vapors may form explosive mixtures with air. Vapors may travel to source of ignition and flash back. Most vapors are heavier than air. They will spread along ground and collect in low or confined areas (sewers, basements, tanks). Vapor explosion hazard indoors, outdoors or in sewers. Runoff to sewer may create fire or explosion hazard. Containers may explode when heated. Many liquids are lighter than water.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 42296-74-2 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 4,2,2,9 and 6 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 7 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 42296-74:
(7*4)+(6*2)+(5*2)+(4*9)+(3*6)+(2*7)+(1*4)=122
122 % 10 = 2
So 42296-74-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
