Oleandomycin is effective against a range of Gram-positive bacteria, including Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, and Mycobacterium species. It is primarily used to treat respiratory tract infections, skin infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases. However, due to its potential side effects and the emergence of antibiotic-resistant strains, its use has been largely replaced by other macrolide antibiotics like erythromycin and azithromycin.
