Silane, 1,3-propanediylbis[methyl-], also known as bis(methylsilyl)methane or 1,3-bis(methylsilyl)propane, is an organosilicon compound with the chemical formula (CH3)2Si(CH2)3Si(CH3)2. It is a colorless, volatile liquid that is soluble in non-polar solvents. Silane,1,3-propanediylbis[methyl- is primarily used as a coupling agent in the production of composite materials, such as fiberglass and carbon fiber-reinforced plastics, to improve the adhesion between the resin matrix and the reinforcing fibers. It can also be used as a cross-linking agent in silicone rubber and as a silylating agent in organic synthesis. Due to its reactivity with moisture, it is sensitive to air and moisture, and should be stored under an inert atmosphere.
