It is a colorless to pale yellow liquid with a strong, unpleasant odor. Ethenethiol, 2-phenyl- is a derivative of ethane, where one hydrogen atom is replaced by a phenyl group (C6H5) and another by a thiol group (-SH). Ethenethiol, 2-phenyl- is used in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and as a flavoring agent in the food industry. It is also employed as a reagent in organic synthesis and as a precursor in the production of other sulfur-containing compounds.
