Novel bioactive flavonol glycoside from Desmodium gangeticum DC.

A novel bioactive flavonol glycoside, m. p. 279-281°; C 28H32O15, 608 (FABMS) has been isolated from the methanol soluble fraction of the stems of Desmodium gangeticum and its structure has been characterised as 3,5,7,4′-tetrahydroxy-8-methyl flavone-3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1→6)-O-β-D-galactopyranoside by various colour reactions, chemical degradations and spectral analysis. The compound 1 showed antimicrobial activity against various bacteria and fungi.
