2-[(2-hydroxyphenyl)methoxymethyl]phenol, commonly known as guaifenesin, is a medication primarily used as an expectorant to facilitate the loosening of mucus in the airways. Derived from the compound guaiacol, it functions by increasing the volume and reducing the viscosity of respiratory tract secretions, thereby making it easier to cough up and clear the airways.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Guaifenesin is used as an expectorant for the treatment of respiratory conditions such as bronchitis, asthma, and the common cold. It helps to relieve symptoms by thinning and loosening mucus, making it easier to expel from the respiratory tract.
Used in Medicinal Formulations:
Guaifenesin is utilized in various forms of medication, including tablets, syrups, and extended-release tablets, to provide relief from respiratory symptoms. Its versatility in formulation allows for different administration routes and dosage options to suit individual patient needs.
Used in Complementary Therapy:
In addition to its primary use as an expectorant, guaifenesin is often combined with other medications, such as decongestants or antihistamines, to provide comprehensive relief for respiratory symptoms. This combination approach can enhance the overall effectiveness of treatment for various respiratory conditions.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 4481-52-1 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 4,4,8 and 1 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 5 and 2 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 4481-52:
(6*4)+(5*4)+(4*8)+(3*1)+(2*5)+(1*2)=91
91 % 10 = 1
So 4481-52-1 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

One- and Two-Dimensional NMR Study of Resol Phenol-Formaldehyde Prepolymer Resins

Fisher, Thomas H.,Chao, Ping,Upton, G. Cindy,Day, Anthony J.

, p. 717 - 723 (2007/10/02)

A one- and two-dimensional NMR study was performed on three commercial resol phenol-formaldehyde (PF) prepolymer resins. 1H, 13C, CSCM and DQF COSY NMR spectral data, in acetone-d6, were obtained on each resin and on PF model compounds: phenol, five methylolphenols, four diphenylmethanes, two formals, two dibenzyl ethers and two dibenzylamines.Gated-decoupled 13C experiments, using 2,4,6-trimethylphenol as internal standard, were used to quantitate the major components present in each of the three resins. The major chemical differences of the three resins were noted.A DQF COSY method was developed that allowed the qualitative identification of most of the major phenolic components present in each of the PF resins. - Keywords: NMR; 1H NMR; 13C NMR; Phenol-formaldehyde resins

PHENOLIC RESINS MANUFACTURED BY POLYCONDENSATION IN THE SOLID STATE FROM PURE PRECURSORS; CRYSTALLOGRAPHIC AND 13C NMR INVESTIGATIONS

Perrin, Robert,Bertholon, Guy,Grenier-Loustalot, M. F.,Lamartine, Roger,Perrin, Monique,Thozet, Alain

, p. 155 - 162 (2007/10/02)

Two important precursors of phenolic resins manufactured from phenol are studied.Crystal stuctures and 13C NMR spectra in solide state are determined for these pure compounds. The thermal polycondensation of one precursor is monitored by 13C NMR.
