The synthesis of chelating diamidodibenzyl complexes of the type Zr(ABAn)(CH2Ph)2 [ABA1 = N, N′-bis(trimethylsilyl)-2-amidobenzylamido (1), ABA2 = N, N′-(methyldiphenylsilyl)(trimethylsilyl)-2-amidobenzylamido (2)] is described. The fluxionality of these complexes in solution has been studied by means of variable-temperature NMR. In the presence of one equivalent of a suitable alkyl abstractor, these compounds proved to behave as moderately active ethylene polymerization catalysts.
