N-(41-β-hydroxyethyl-11-piperazinylmethyl)tetracycline was obtained by reaction of tetracycline with 1-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine in the presence of formaldehyde.8.6 g of N-(41-β-hydroxyethyl-11-piperazinylmethyl)tetracycline and 35.0 gphenoxymethyl-penicilline, were dissolved in 300 ml methanol, with agitation. The solution was filtered on a Buchner filter, and the filtrate was taken up with 900 ml anhydrous ether with strong agitation, again filtered under pressure, and the filter cake was washed twice with 50 ml anhydrous ether. The product was; dried in vacuum. 84.0 g were obtained of a penimepicycline as yellowish white powder.
