Description
4α,9-Epoxycevane-3β,4,7α,14,15α,16β,20-heptol 3-[(R)-2-methylbutanoate] is a complex organic compound derived from the extraction process of Germerine. It is formed by the loss of methylethylglycollic acid and is also claimed to exist in Veratrum album and certain species of Zygadenus. 4α,9-Epoxycevane-3β,4,7α,14,15α,16β,20-heptol 3-[(R)-2-methylbutanoate] forms glancing prisms from C6H6 and has a specific rotation of [α]22D 9° (pyridine). It is only slightly soluble in most organic solvents and exhibits characteristic reactions with acids, such as giving a cherry-red color with H2SO4 and a carmine-red color with HCl, with isobutyric acid being liberated from the latter mixture upon heating.Uses
