A novel and efficient method for the synthesis of a new variety of nitrosopyridine-2(1H)-thiones and nitroso-N-arylpyridones by the reaction of oxime derivatives of β-diketones and β-ketoesters with cyanothioacetamide and cynoacetanilides, respectively. The synthetic potential of the method is demonstrated.
