A series of aryloxy-substituted phthalodinitriles were prepared by nucleophilic aromatic substitution of bromine in 4-bromo-5-nitrophthalodinitrile, and the corresponding phthalocyanines were synthesized. The physicochemical properties of phthalocyanines depend on the substituent in the aryl moiety.
