The simultaneous chlorination of cis-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic and exo-3,6-epoxy-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydrides with oxirane and epichlorohydrin was investigated.Electrophilic attack by the halogen in three-component addition at the double bond of cis-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride takes place on the side of the anhydride ring.The Wagner-Meerwein rearrangement is not observed during the simultaneous addition of chlorine and oxirane at the double bond of exo-3,6-epoxy-1,2,3,6-tetrahydrophthalic anhydride.
