Securinol A is one of three closely related alkaloids isolated from Securinega suffructicosa. It has a specific rotation of [α]17D + 58.2° (c 0.14, CHC13) or + 50° (dioxan). Securinol A can form a crystalline picrate with a melting point of 186-187°C (dec.) and a 3:5-dinitrobenzoate with a melting point of 198-199°C. It can be hydrogenated with PtO2 in AcOH to form a dihydro derivative, which can then be converted to a hydrochloride with a melting point of 241-242°C. When treated with methylsulphonyl chloride in pyridine, Securinol A yields viroallosecurinine with a melting point of 133-134°C and a specific rotation of [α]D + 1200° (c 0.01, EtOH).
