A series of novel substituted phenoxypropylamine derivatives have been prepared by reacting the appropriate 1-phenoxy-2,3-epoxypropane compound with a suitable organic amine reagent. The resulting 1-phenoxy-3-alkylaminopropan-2-ols are useful in the field

A series of 1 aryloxy 3 (aryloxyalkylamino)propan 2 ols was synthesized and investigated for cardioselective β adrenoceptor blocking activity. Several compounds exhibited potency comparable with that of propranolol, both in vitro and in vivo, and showed selectivity for cardiac vs. tracheal receptors. The cardiac depressant activity of the compounds was generally much less marked than that exhibited by propranolol. Tolamolol has been shown to be a cardiac selective β adrenoceptor blocking agent in man.
