Unsymmetrical diphosphine ligands of the type Ph2P(CH2)nNHPPr2i [n = 2 (1), 3 (2)] have been obtained by reacting the appropriate (diphenylphosphino)alkylamine, Ph2P(CH2)n NH2 with chlorodi-iso-propylphosphine, in the presence of triethylamine. Reaction of Ph2P(CH2)2NHPPr2i with PdCl2(PhCN)2, PtCl2(PhCN)2, PtMe2(cod) and PtClMe(cod), NiCl2 · 6H2O and Fe(CO)2(η5- C5H5)I gives the corresponding chelate complexes, PdCl2L, PtX2L, NiCl2L and Fe(CO)(η5-C5H5)L. Reaction of Ph2P(CH2)3NHPPr2i with PtCl2(PhCN)2, PtMe2(cod) and PdCl2(PhCN)2 yields the chelate complexes and reaction with PtClMe(cod) led to a 50:50 mixture of chelate isomers.
