Catumaxomab, also known as Removab, is a bispecific trifunctional antibody (trAb) designed to induce efficient killing of epithelial tumor cells. It is an anti-Ep-CAM monoclonal antibody with an additional anti-CD3 arm that targets the T-cell antigen CD3, activating T cells to release cytotoxic cytokines and promote T cell-mediated lysis. The trifunctionality of catumaxomab is due to its intact Fc region, which selectively binds to FCg receptor-positive accessory cells, such as macrophages, dendritic cells, and natural killer (NK) cells, promoting phagocytosis and antibody-dependent cell cytotoxicity.
