Idursulfase is a recombinant human enzyme developed as an enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) for the treatment of Mucopolysaccharidosis II, also known as Hunter Syndrome. It is produced from HT-1080 cells and is fully glycosylated with eight mannose-6-phosphate groups, as well as possessing sialylation moieties that improve its stability in circulation.

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:Idursulfase is used as an enzyme replacement therapy for the treatment of Hunter Syndrome, a lysosomal storage disorder characterized by a deficiency in iduronate-2-sulfatase. This enzyme deficiency leads to the accumulation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in tissues, causing various clinical manifestations such as short stature, joint stiffness, harsh facial features, hepatosplenomegaly, and progressive mental retardation. Idursulfase helps degrade the glycosaminoglycans heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate, alleviating the symptoms and improving the quality of life for patients with this condition.
