This is a continuation of our work on the reactions of [RuCp(PR3)(CH3CN)2]PF6 with terminal alkynes and diynes. Here now we use, instead of PR3, the phosphino-amine ligand PPh2NHPh. The reaction pattern is found to be similar except that the N-H bond of the phosphine ligand is activated and not a C-H bond as before. Thus the reaction of [RuCp(PPh2NHPh)(CH3CN)2]PF6 with HC≡CR (R = Ph, n-Bu, CH2Ph), 1,6-heptadiyne, and 1,7-octadiyne results in the formation of the η4-butadiene amido complexes [RuCp(η4-C4H3(R)2 PPh2-κ1-(N)-NPh)]PF6, [RuCp(η4-C4H3(CH2)3- PPh2-κ1-(N)-NPh)]PF6, and [RuCp(η4-C4H3(CH2)4- PPh2-κ1-(N)-NPh)]PF6 in good yields.
