Intramolecular charge transfer from the diazonium group to the heterocyclic nitrogen atom in 2,7-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-7H-dibenzisoquinoline-1-diazonium salts endows them with relatively weak electrophilic properties.On the other hand, these compounds are prone to homolytic reactions due to high electron-acceptor power of the diazonium ion as a whole.The behavior of 2,7-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-7H-dibenzisoquinoline-1-diasonium salts in typical reactions with nucleophilic reagents (N-, O-, and C-nucleophiles, halide and other anions) has been studied, and some unusual reactions have been revealed.In particular, 2,7-dioxo-2,3-dihydro-7H-dibenzisoquinoline-1-diasonium salts can react with N,N-dialkylanilines as tertiary amines rather than azoic coupling components, and the diasonium group in the diasonium chloride can be replaced by its own anion; the latter transformation clearly proceeds by a homolytic mechanism.
