The reaction of 3 dialkylamino 1 oxo 1H naphtho [2,1 b] pyrans with dialkylamines and formaldehyde yielded 3 dialkylamino 2 dialkylaminomethyl 1 oxo 1H naphtho [2,1 b] pyrans, when a correct amount of acetic acid was present. An excess of this acid sometimes gave rise to the formation of 2 [(1 hydroxy 3 oxo 3H naphtho [2,1 b] pyran 2 yl)methyl] 3 dialkylamino 1 oxo 1H naphtho [2,1 b] pyrans. Several dialkylaminomethyl derivatives showed interesting anticonvulsant properties, some others showed marked CNS depressant effects.
