The acylhydrazones (III), obtained from treatment of sebacic acid dihydrazide (II) with various aromatic aldehydes, on oxidative cyclization with ferric chloride yields 1,8-bis(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)octanes (IV) which are converted into 1,8-bis(4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)octanes (V) with hydrazine hydrate.
