KINETICS OF THE ACID-CATALYSED ADDITION OF ARYLAMINES TO AROMATIC NITRILE OXIDES

The addition of arylamines to stable aromatic nitrile oxides, giving rise to substituted N-arylbenzamidoximes, was carried out in carbon tetrachloride, in the presence of acetic acid as catalyst.Kinetic measurements were done at 30.3 deg C.Attention was paid to the term in the rate equation which corresponds to the catalysed reaction: the observed kinetic effect of substituents on the nitrile oxide and on the aniline benzene rings suggests a concerted attack of arylamine and acetic acid on to ArCNO as the most probable reaction mechanism.
