Bismarck Brown R is a red light brown dye that is soluble in water, ethanol, and soluble fiber element. It is slightly soluble in acetone and insoluble in benzene. The dye exhibits different colors when mixed with various acids, such as brown in strong sulfuric acid, purple in nitric acid, and purple in strong hydrochloric acid. When mixed with strong hydrochloric acid, the dye solution turns yellow brown, and adding 10% sodium hydroxide solution results in an orange color.
