The aroyl nitrenes generated by the photolysis of 3-aryl-1,4,2-dioxazol-5-ones react with 2-methyl-1-methoxy-1-propene, forming the corresponding 2-aryl-4,4-dimethyl-5-methoxy-2-oxazolines and aryl isocyanates in a ratio of 1:1.On the basis of data on the reaction of aroyl nitrenes with cis- and trans-1-methoxy-1-propenes it was concluded that the intermediate stereoisomers of 1-aroyl-2-methyl-3-methoxyaziridines are converted into a mixture of the stereoisomeric oxazolines through a common bipolar ion.
