The invention provides a plastic colorant GG orange and a preparation method thereof. The plastic colorant GG orange comprises the following components in parts: 780-820 parts of N, N-dimethylformamide, 190-200 parts of hydrochloric acid, 105-110 parts of water, 230-240 parts of 3-(2-aminophenylmercapto)benzanthrone, 45-50 parts of 28-32% sodium nitrite aqueous solution and 0.6-0.9 part of catalyst. The preparation method comprises the following steps of weighing N, N-dimethylformamide, hydrochloric acid and water, pumping into a reaction kettle, adding 3-(2-aminophenylmercapto)benzanthrone, introducing frozen brine to reduce the temperature to 3-6 DEG C, dropwise adding 25-50 kg/h of a sodium nitrite aqueous solution, carrying out a heat preservation reaction at 10-20 DEG C under normal pressure for 1.5-2.5 h, and carrying out filter pressing to obtain a filtrate, transferring the filtrate into a closed-loop kettle, adding copper catalase, heating to 75-85 DEG C, keeping the temperature for 2.5-3.5 hours, and carrying out filter pressing to obtain a filter cake, adding the filter cake into a pulping kettle, adding the residual water, pulping for 1.5-2.5 hours, putting into a suction filtration cylinder, carrying out vacuum suction filtration, rinsing with hot water until the pH value is 7-9, drying the filter cake, powdering, blending and packaging to obtain the product. The finished product prepared by the method has the characteristics of high temperature resistance, high transparency, strong fluorescence, high coloring rate and the like, side reactions in the preparation process are few, and the product purity is high.

A C. I. Solvent Orange 63 with reduced corrosive behavior during the processing in plastics can be obtained by controlling the residual amount of organic bromine in by-products resulting from di-bromo content of the raw material. The C. I. Solvent Orange 63 thus obtained is negative in mutagenicity and sensititzation tests, allowing an improved industrial hygiene during handling and processing and a safer end use in regulated end uses such as the coloration of consumer goods, food packaging and toys.
