Description
ALTRENOGEST, also known as (S)-trans-2-Amino-4-(2-aminoethoxy)-3-butenoic acid hydrochloride or AVG, is an inhibitor of ethylene biosynthesis in plants. Ethylene is an important plant regulator synthesized from S-adenosyl-L-methionine by the sequential action of 1-amino-cyclopropane-carboxylate (ACC) synthases (ACSs) and ACC oxidases (ACOs). ALTRENOGEST blocks the activity of both ACSs and ACOs at 1 μM, reducing ethylene-mediated changes in plant growth and development. Additionally, it inhibits cystathionine γ-lyase (Ki = 10.5 μM) with slowand tight-binding characteristics.
