DI-TERT-BUTYLCHLOROSILANE is used as a precursor for the synthesis of di-t-butyloxysilanes, which can be further utilized in the so-called unimolecular chain transfer (UMCT) reaction of silicon hydrides. This reaction involves the treatment of a γ-iodoallylic alcohol with NaH and t-Bu2SiHCl, followed by UV irradiation in the presence of 10% hexabutylditin to afford the reduced alkene.
