We have studied the generation of monohalogenocarbenes under the influence of ultrasound (22 kHz, 150 W, average intensity 3 W cm-2) in the dihalogenomethane CH2Hal2 (Hal=Cl, Br)-solid potassium hydroxide-triethylbenzylammonium chloride system. The reaction of the monohalogenocarbenes (:CHCl, :CHBr) with some 2-aryl-1,3-dioxacycloalkanes under these conditions yields products in which the carbenes are inserted into the benzyl C-H bond (2-aryl-2-halogenomethyl-1,3-dioxacycloalkanes).The yield of the products, their physicochemical properties, and their 1H NMR spectroscopy parameters have been determined.
