The activation of NOX (X=Cl, Br or Br3) with iridium(I) complexes affords carbonylnitrosyl and carbonylhyponitrite complexes of iridium(III).Oxygenation of the nitrosyl ligand in these complexes produces carbonylnitrato complexes of Ir(III).The reaction of HCl with hyponitrite complexes gives negative results which indicate the presence of asymmetrically bridged hyponitrite.The products have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, IR and magnetic studies.
