, p. 2165 - 2169 (2017)
Reductive coupling of various carbonyl compounds to the corresponding symmetric ethers with dimethylphenylsilane is reported using a carbon-supported dioxo-molybdenum catalyst. The catalyst is air- and moisture-stable and can be easily separated from the reaction mixture for recycling. In addition, the catalyst is chemoselective, thus enabling the synthesis of functionalized ethers without requiring sacrificial ligands or protecting groups.
Plasmonic colloidosomes of black gold for solar energy harvesting and hotspots directed catalysis for CO2 to fuel conversion

In this work, we showed the tuning of the catalytic behavior of dendritic plasmonic colloidosomes (DPCs) by plasmonic hotspots. A cycle-by-cycle solution-phase synthetic protocol yielded high-surface-area DPCs by controlled nucleation-growth of gold nanoparticles. These DPCs, which had varying interparticle distances and particle-size distribution, absorb light over the entire visible region as well as in the near-infrared region of the solar spectrum, transforming gold into black gold. They produced intense hotspots of localized electric fields as well as heat, which were quantified and visualized by Raman thermometry and electron energy loss spectroscopy plasmon mapping. These DPCs can be effectively utilized for the oxidation reaction of cinnamyl alcohol using pure oxygen as the oxidant, hydrosilylation of aldehydes, temperature jump assisted protein unfolding and purification of seawater to drinkable water via steam generation. Black gold DPCs also convert CO2 to methane (fuel) at atmospheric pressure and temperature, using solar energy.
Organosilane oxidation with a half million turnover number using fibrous nanosilica supported ultrasmall nanoparticles and pseudo-single atoms of gold

The combination of ultrasmall nanoparticles and pseudo-single atoms of gold (Au) and fibrous nanosilica (KCC-1) functionalized with 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTS) enabled the design of KCC-1-APTS/Au nanocatalysts with very high turnover numbers (TONs). KCC-1-APTS/Au catalysed the oxidation of organosilanes to silanols, with a TON of approximately half a million (591000 for dimethylphenyl silane as a model substrate). Additionally, the figure-of-merit (FOM), which provides an integrated view of the rate of the reaction, the energy required, the reaction scale and the recyclability of the catalysts, was 633 mmol h-1 K-1. KCC-1-APTS/Au also catalysed two additional challenging reactions, the alcoholysis of silane and the hydrosilylation of aldehydes, with very high TONs. These characteristics make KCC-1-APTS/Au a versatile nanocatalyst.
Role of low-valent rhenium species in catalytic hydrosilylation reactions with oxorhenium catalysts

, p. 5994 - 5997 (2012/10/30)
The catalytic competency of a Re(III) complex has been demonstrated. In the presence of silane, oxorhenium(V) catalysts are deoxygenated to produce species that are significantly more active than the metal oxo precursors in hydrosilylation reactions. The results presented suggest that, in evaluating mechanisms for catalytic hydrosilylation reactions that involve high-valent metal oxo complexes, the activity of species that may be generated by deoxygenation of the metal with silane should also be systematically investigated as potential catalysts.
