By inhibiting this enzyme, VX leads to an accumulation of acetylcholine, causing overstimulation of the nervous system and ultimately leading to respiratory failure, seizures, and death. Due to its extreme toxicity, VX is considered a significant threat in both military and terrorist scenarios, and its production and stockpiling are regulated under international treaties.
