Tetrasubstituted epoxides, and especially electron-depleted ones, generally are difficult to prepare. HOF·CH3CN complex, probably the best oxygen transfer agent known today, epoxidizes tetrasubstituted alkenes at 0 °C in a matter of minutes or less in excellent yields.
