When complexed to transition-metal atoms, the zwitterionic ligand phenyl-{bis(triphenylphosphanemethylenido)}borane behaves like a neutral analogue of the η3allyl ligand. Syntheses and X-ray crystal structures of the ligand and its complexes with ZrCl4 and PdCl2 (depicted) are described (Pd = cyan, B = yellow, P = pink, Cl = green, C=white).
