NK-53, also known as Novichok, is a highly potent and lethal chemical nerve agent belonging to the fourth generation of chemical warfare agents. Developed in the Soviet Union during the 1970s and 1980s, it is characterized by its high toxicity, rapid onset, and resistance to standard chemical protective measures. The agent is known for its ability to penetrate the human body through inhalation, skin contact, or ingestion, causing severe symptoms such as muscle twitching, convulsions, and respiratory failure, ultimately leading to death. Due to its extreme danger and potential for misuse, the production and stockpiling of Novichok-class agents are prohibited under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
