It is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in organic solvents such as dichloromethane and acetonitrile. Pyridine perbromide is a strong electrophile and a versatile reagent in organic synthesis, particularly for the conversion of alcohols to alkyl halides, as well as for the bromination of alkenes and alkynes. It is also used in the oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids and the conversion of amines to nitriles.
