Substituted cinnamanilides are useful as bacteriostatic agents, the cinnamanilides being characterized by the presence in the aniline moiety of at least one fluorine containing substituent and in the cinnamoyl moiety by at least one halogen and having the formula: SPC1 Wherein: A,b, and C are selected from the group H, Cl and Br and at least one of them is Cl or Br; X, Y and Z are selected from the group H, CF3, OCF3, OCF2 CHF2, Cl and Br and at least one of them is CF3, OCF3 or OCF2 CHF2 ; except: When B, C and Y are all hydrogen, X cannot be hydrogen or bromine.
